La Bella Vita

Matt and I love to make fun of our favorite commercial for La Bella Vita, a spa in Pocatello. It says, as it shows a lady getting a massage and her hair done, "For the next 30 seconds, allow yourself to be vicariously pampered..." in this husky lady's voice ( I mean the voice is husky, not the lady). Every time we see anyone doing just about anything we copy the voice and say, "For the next 30 seconds..." I know, the hilarity, right? But today, I extend the same invitation to you. Do enjoy your relaxation.

I had the luxury of visiting the spa today. It was fabulous. For just five dollars, I got the absolute star treatment. Two technicians pampered me at the same time.

The first technician, who insisted I call her by her first name, Tra-Lula, methodically messaged my feet with pleasant smelling, handmade hankies. If I didn't know better, I would have thought they were diaper wipes, but Tra-Lula insisted they were handmade hankies...so I'm sure they were.

The second technician (I didn't catch his name, but he reminded me a little of Froto Baggins from Lord of the Rings) focused mainly on my head. I got a complete facial and head massage as he first used one of the homemade hankies to wipe my face (and the clever chap kept offering for me to blow my nose into the perfectly moistened hankie. How thoughtful these technicians are) and then pulling my hair. When that segment was done, he finished the fantastic facial by alternating hitting my face with sitting on my face. I tell you, those diaper padded camo pants sure can exfoliate. I'm sure it took off ten years. What fine lines and wrinkles? I never knew my five dollars would go so far with such exotic treatments. So refreshing. And the best part? I paid them in monopoly money. Ha. Suckers.

Hi. Remember Me?

Summer. That's it. My excuse for one post a month is Summer. So I will just catch you up on what has happened with us the last month. It seems like the last of several of my posts have just been laundry lists of "we did this, we did that." Sorry. That ain't gonna change today.

1. Matt had double knee surgery on July 29th. It......sucked. For him, not for me. I got to have him home for 2 weeks. He had both knees scoped to repair the menisci and had the back of his patella shaved off a little on his right leg. He played baseball really heavy in high school and then he hurt the right one on the snowmachine a few years ago. The doctor gave us pictures of the surgery and I was going to post them, but I think they are disgusting, and led me to a personal pledge to never eat crab again, so I decided not too. Because I care about you and your sensitive stomachs, I really do. Thank you to all of you who helped us out with your muscles, goodies, calls, thoughts, or dinner from a certain delicious Mexican restaraunt. Ya'll rock the house and you helped out tremendously. Matt was feeling so good after a while that we were able to....

2. Go to Porter Park with our friends from the great state of Texas. Bill and Jenn were up and we took Lindy, Hank, Hatch and Porter to the splash park. Hank, of course, had nothing to do with the getting wet. But everyone else dug it. It was a blast.

3. We have eaten corn. Lots and Lots of corn. I don't know if you know this about me, but I have a fairly addictive personality. It's a good thing I had good friends in high school and college or I am positive I would be a total lush. I digress though, this isn't about that. It is about the delicious and mystically powered yellow vegetable that entrances and enthralls me. I love it. And when the guy pulls up with a truck next to Leisure time (by starlight skating for all of you who moved away and don't remember the lay of the land in the gorgeous and entertaining Idaho Falls. But NOBODY forgets starlight skating...it's a magical place and deserves a post all it's own) I am drawn by a power beyond mortal comprehension. Matt stops pretty much everyday for a fix. Oh, i mean a dozen. Sometimes during the day I dream about driving in, eating an entire dozen by myself, and destroying the evidence. I've decided it would be pretty easy to ditch the shucks out in the way back of our weeds/yard. Matt would never know that I spent the day watchin' soaps and eatin' corn. And that was such a joke. I don't watch soaps. Dr. Phil? Maybe. The Price is Right? Perhaps. Sesamee Street? Come on, everyone loves a good Sesamee Street. But NOT soaps.

4. We went up to Island Park with our cool neighbors. Kim and Damian (our next door neighbors who have a rad yard and I'm sure hope everyday that we will win the lottery and get a yard put in already) invited the end of the street to their family's cabin. We just went up for one day of the 3 day extravaganza, and it was the shizzle (what, I can totally still say that. "I'm hip, I'm cool, tucka, tucka" (name that movie and win a pretend prize..don't you love my fake giveaways? :))). The kids had a candy hunt, we went and splashed around at Mack's Inn, and we ate....corn. So you know I had fun because corn was involved and as I have shown, that's all it takes to entertain and thrill me. But it was so much more than corn. It was a blast. I know we missed half the party, but it was still plenty of party, totally rad. And yes, I am trying to bring back "rad." I think it's high time the word made a comeback. Tell all your friends.

5. The kids have experimented with their creative outlets.

It's a little hard to make out in the picture, but Lindy is thinking about her future as a makeup artist. Her face positively glowed with the amount of pink sparkley eyeshadow she put all over it. If the dewey look comes back...she is IN.

Hank is a sparkle-toes. That's all there is to say. I don't want to get into how this happened, or why it happened. It just happened, and thank goodness there is the picture of him throwing rocks in the river in the slideshow to show his manly side. Or I am sure Matt would have my hide for posting this. But come on, it's cute.

So there you have it. My month in a nutshell. Thank you for coming back to read this and check in. Has ya'll's (how exactly should I conjugate that?) summer been nuts? Please leave me a comment about 1. what movie that excellent quote came from. 2. How your summer is. 3. What is your favorite season and why (500 words or less please :))? I can't wait to see your answers! But it will have to wait till later. If anyone needs me, I'll be at the corn stand by Leisure Time.
